So, before I discuss him, I will recommend this excellent meta by thisworldgodonlyknows. If you look at it, almost all of these characters end up dying at some point in a misguided attempt earn their right to live. Even if they have a happy ending, they die in the meantime; these deaths are not always directly attributed to these tendencies in the character, but are certainly somewhat connected.
However, for each of these characters, it is absolutely not their fault that they feel they have to earn their lives. For Zhuzhi-Lang specifically, he was born to a snake demon clan. This cruelty has embedded itself deeply in Zhuzhi-Lang: he is violent when someone is violent to him as a result thereof, but he is also kind to an extreme when people are kind to him.
Originally posted by fandemymy. TLJ was just TLJ very very slowly puts the book in her hand. His eyes are wide and very excited but also not without speculation. His suspicion makes SXY feel a little better. Her sword comes a few inches out of its hilt and she hears his laugh ringing in the wind as she flies away.
She continues to hide her feelings behind that veneer of pure snow he loves so damn much and nods to accept his teachings. In her bedroom after that, she lights first her plain white candles, then swaps them out for some scented pink ones—an old gift from an old, old friend.
She checks that all the windows and doors are locked. Then she flips open the book, licks her lips, and slips a hand underneath her sheets. So SY finds himself single, with too much free time and uninterested in dating someone his age. He tries, but he feels a general disinterest and lack of attraction. Enters the pretentious dating website. SY fits the bill, so they meet and hit it off. They end up in a kinky friends with benefits arrangement. They both get what they want from it, they enjoy each other's company even outside the bedroom, they have zero expectation that their relationship will ever become public.
It is, however, a strictly monogamous arrangement. TLJ does not share. Enter LBH. I find it hard to believe that in modern days, SXY could 1 have a child and 2 die in childbirth without TLJ knowing, so here, he does. It just hit him so hard, since it was completely unexpected, that he disconnected completely from LBH.
The child was given to an old woman to raise. It gave TLJ the time to process and move on. So they try to create a relationship. Turns out SY is there sometimes. He was wrong. He tries to remain generally friendly, maybe helps him out with whatever school thing he can help with, things like that. He deserves better. TLJ starts questioning himself.
Would it be better to give him up and let LBH have him? It would be a better match for him. LBH could make SY his life partner more publicly. It would still be a scandal, but a more manageable one. LBH is his sole heir, so he could provide SY with a carefree, happy life.
He decides against it. SY is happy with his current arrangement; why change things? TLJ, though, notices. And gets annoyed. Tianlang Jun is elegant and regal. He exhibits some sense of humour, frequently teasing his General Zhuzhi Lang. In his younger years, Tianlang Jun may have been an idealistic, expectant youth. Now, Tianlang Jun shows coldness typical to demons and shows no remorse about using his son to achieve his own aims. He is not a pacifist. Tianlang-jun often refers Luo Binghe as 'this son of mine', having no actual love for his son, since the demon clan looks at emotions with cold contempt.
He prefers educating his son through violence, and puts pride above his own son. Even during their fight in the Holy Mausoleum, both Luo Binghe and Tianlang-jun did not hesitate to exchange blows, with Tianlang-jun being the strongest amidst the fight playing around with him.
They don't share a father-son relationship to begin with. Point List.
